Presidential Debate Word Cloud

I’m fascinated by data visualization.  Information becomes so much clearer when you present it in an innovative fashion. This word cloud of the Obama/McCain debate, for example, reveals some interesting differences in the candidates’ campaign strategy.

Thanks to JS Wright for generating this word cloud:

Second Life? I’m still working on the first one!

Michael WhittleseaYears ago, I told students in my Multimedia class that the Internet would one day be displayed in 3D.  While that hasn’t quite happened yet, it’s still fun to play in Second Life, a virtual world where students and educators can meet, travel, build and discuss regardless of where they exist in real life.

I’ll have to admit, I don’t spend much time “in world,” but I pop in on ocassion.

My identity is Michael Whittlesea, and I’m generally found at “Ed Tech Island,” although I’ve been known to explore.

Someday I’ll take the time to find an avatar with a grey goatee.  ;-)

Common Craft YouTube videos

Although I’m mostly just playing with the option to add YouTube videos to WordPress, I’m also featuring a series of videos by Common Craft, videos that explain some common concepts in Educational Technology.  These online videos are short and explain such technologies as podcasting, social media, twitter, and blogs in plain English, using low-tech paper images.  Fun!

Social Media in Plain English

Podcasting in Plain English

Twitter in Plain English

Common Craft has many more videos available.  For more, take a look at their YouTube user account.
